In 2024, an emblematic Swiss house in the luxury watchmaking sector is relying on the expertise of Qim info to initiate an ambitious digital transformation. At the heart of the project is a cloud platform designed to meet the demands of a constantly evolving international environment, where mastery of data is strategic. Data governance, security, agility… this feedback highlights the solutions chosen to make the most of data on a large scale.

Why design and implement a cloud platform?

A cloud data platform centralises, secures and adds value to business information. By structuring data flows and ensuring their conformity, it provides a solid basis for analyses, dashboards and data science use cases.

Flexible, the cloud infrastructure adapts to business needs. It guarantees traceability, secures access and facilitates sharing between teams. It improves performance, structures governance and supports innovation.

Centralising data: a strategic challenge for this luxury house

In 2024, this international luxury house is faced with the increasing fragmentation of its data. Access remains limited for certain subsidiaries, processing is still largely manual and traceability is inadequate. The existing data infrastructure is reaching its limits and no longer meets the growing expectations in terms of predictive analysis, ad hoc exploration or advanced data exploitation.

Building a compliant, secure and scalable data cloud platform

The company’s ambition is to bring together all its data in a secure environment, while guaranteeing governance in line with its internal policies. It wants to provide its teams with a reliable foundation for developing a variety of data analysis use cases. To meet these challenges, it is relying on a robust cloud platform, designed to evolve on an international scale and support the long-term growth of its data requirements.

Data cloud architecture: bespoke design and deployment

To structure this project and ensure its success, the company is relying on the expertise of Qim info, with a mission guided by three major goals.

Analytical requirements: business mapping and use cases

The teams gather requirements directly from the local business and IT departments in order to identify existing and future analytical use cases. This analysis phase groups requirements by type (reporting, dashboards, ad hoc exploration) and by level of complexity. This provides each business unit with a clear, structured and immediately usable functional map.

Data governance: aligning compliance and usage

Based on internal security and compliance standards, Qim info defines a solid and operational data governance framework. The distribution of roles, the classification of data according to its sensitivity and the automation of the logging, archiving and deletion processes are rigorously addressed. This governance model facilitates controls, strengthens regulatory compliance and guarantees clear, controlled data management.

Technical implementation: platform components and automation

The third stage involves the technical implementation of the cloud architecture. Qim info integrates the various components of the data platform: storage, flow management, infrastructure as code and deployment automation. This phase combines development, scripting, flow modelling and configuration, in close collaboration with in-house teams and technology vendors. It lays the technical foundations needed to activate future analytical uses.

Qim info expertise: services deployed for the cloud platform

Qim info is designing a complete, governed and industrialised cloud data platform. The 350-day project involves a cloud architect and a dedicated developer. The main stages:

  1. Use case analysis: collaborative workshops identify analytical requirements. Each request is formalised in Azure DevOps, guaranteeing traceability of user stories, versions and documentation.
  2. Definition of the governance framework: classification, security and access management rules are structured in a data governance framework that complies with internal policies. This framework strengthens the management and controlled circulation of data.
  3. Design of the technical architecture: the architecture is based on Snowflake, a scalable cloud data warehouse that separates storage and calculation. This approach promotes flexibility, performance and the secure sharing of data between entities.
  4. Automated data flows: the Talend and SSIS tools power the platform. Talend guarantees reliable transformations, while SSIS supports complex integrations in the Microsoft environment. Together, these tools enable the smooth automation of data pipelines.
  5. Infrastructure as Code: deployments are automated with Terraform, which describes the infrastructure in the form of code. This ensures reliable replication, complete traceability and ongoing compliance.
  6. Executing scripts: PowerShell manages the recurring tasks of monitoring, administering and cleaning up environments, in complete autonomy.
  7. Documentation and capitalisation: all reusable components, processes and functions are documented to make it easier for internal teams to adopt them and build up their skills.

Cloud data platform: concrete results and extended uses

The deployment of the cloud data platform is transforming the organisation’s data culture for good. Information becomes accessible in real time, according to clear and secure sharing rules, accelerating the development of data analysis use cases.

Designed to meet the needs of all business lines, the platform includes :

  • business intelligence,
  • advanced visualisation,
  • predictive analysis,
  • and data science.

It guarantees a high level of performance, security and governance across the group. Its poolable functionalities, accompanied by comprehensive documentation, make it easy to reuse in future projects. The architecture supports distributed governance and encourages the democratisation of data across all entities.

Sustainable data strategy: foundations for a sovereign cloud platform

This project illustrates Qim info’s ability to manage major data transformations, combining technical expertise, mastery of regulatory issues and a detailed understanding of business needs. By designing a sovereign, secure and scalable cloud data platform, Qim info offers its customers a strategic lever to support their growth.

The solution implemented is based on a modular architecture that can be managed and industrialised. It can be deployed progressively in other Group entities, while adapting to future developments without calling into question the established technical foundations.
